Disneyland: 50 Years “Flash” By

mm(PG-13 post) Duward Discussion had a post today on Disneyland’s anniversary. I decided to take a Google walk and share what I found. Most was your average Disney history stuff (which I love) but I discovered something else I thought was an urban legend and now have seen it is decidedly not! (Hint . . . put the word “flash” in context with the “BARE” necessities of . . . well, that will come later).

I’ve been a D-Land aficionado since I was a very young kid. In fact, since I grew up in Southern California, I celebrated many birthday parties there through the years. Now I have annual passes for my whole family which I renew most every year and we still go there to get amazed and inspired by the genius of one man. I’ve written 2 other posts here at Riley Central about Walt Disney and Disneyland on this blog: “Unfreezing Walt” and “Patch of Orange Groves.” This post brings that count to 3 and still that is not enough to display my admiration for the man. He is truly one of my top heroes in life, art, and imagination. Disneyland is a 3-D extension of what his ingenious mind was all about. There is an amazing Wikipedia article on the 50th “Homecoming” of Disneyland. It gives some amazing facts and details about the theme park and its visionary. Thomas Kinkade has an amazing painting available of the Main Street view of the castle. Everything about Disneyland is wholesome and childlike . . . except for a few things . . . ahem. One of them is the TRUE urban legend about women who “flash” their stuff on the world famous drop cam at Disneyland’s “Splash Mountain.”

This is affectionately called “Flash Mountain.” I wonder what Disney would make of this phenomenon? Kind of takes away the need for his favorite thing . . . the imagination :) I won’t link the sites showing these photos. One site said they used to be on average/funny sites with minimal burlesque photography. The ones presenting them now are a little much for linkage here at Riley Central. At any rate, you know how to Google . . . have a laugh when you get the chance.

Well, there’s a few links and something you may not have known about the happiest squeaky clean place on Earth . . . Happy 50th D-Land. Thanks for the wild ride: it seems like it went by in a flash. LOL!

The first time I was at Disney was four years ago, believe it or not, in Orlando. Just never had the opportunity to go before that. I had a great time exploring every inch of every park!! I really enjoyed the Safari in Animal Kingdom-that was too cool!

My oldest was just at Dinsleyland a few weeks ago with my ex-husband. I’m sure she would have enjoyed it under different circumstances, but from what she saw, she liked it better than the one in Orlando…I’ll have to get there one day, too!!

I’ve been to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando. It is an almost exact replica of the California version. The animal stuff sounds cool, wanna go myself someday. I think I’ve been to the California Disneyland at least 100 times with the annual passes and all. It waxes and wanes as cool. You get bored of anything. Something about it though always keeps me coming back. Hope your oldest had a good time! When you go to D-Land drop us a line. The family could meet you there! Out of towners are always fun. Makes us feel like we know everything ;)
