As we head into the weekend, I am baffled and need help understanding a few topics in pop culture today. Maybe you can help me out . . .
- Why is it that youtube is so freagin poular?
- How is it that celebrities like Noelia have surprise “Sex Tapes” that mysteriously get leaked to the press. I mean, who has a “sex tape” anyway? And if you had one, wouldn’t you destroy it or like . . . hide it well?
- Why does everyone think the iphone is so great when the wireless internet you’re required to purchase for it is too slow for it to work? Also, haven’t there been a few of these from NOKIA and others already?
- Why does Myspace continue to be such a pop culture buzzword when it sucks and there are many social networking services that are better?
- Why do we live in a world where Paris Hilton gets over 200K to speak for 20 minutes and poor kids go on starving all over the world? –and–
- Why does bebo continue to be on the most popular topics list at Technorati when it is simplistic, lame, boring, and no better than myspace?

I wish I could help you but I have never looked at YouTube, MySpace or Bebo, have no plans to own an iPhone and I think that Paris Hilton is a waste of space!
Ok. There’s 2 of us that need help understanding then. I don’t feel quite so out of it now.
I only like You Tube because it’s easy to share videos on the blog or with my completely computer illiterate relatives :)
I don’t get the MySpace or those things at all. I think they work pretty well for musicians, but otherwise…I don’t get all the commenting on nothing and all that stuff. Haven’t looked at any of the other ones.
Paris kind of interests me. I really don’t know why and I certainly wouldn’t pay to hear her speak. Maybe that’s the interest…trying to figure out why I’m interested at all!!!

Excellent response! I’m more on my way to understanding!
1. Because YouTube enables speedy delivery of sex tapes.
2. Because it brought fame to Paris Hilton, who now gets $200K to speak for 20 minutes.
3. Because Paris said it was great.
4. Because Rupert Murdoch is The Man.
5. Because poor kids don’t make hot sex tapes.
6. Because bebo is another word for ‘Paris sex tape.’
Any more questions? I’m on a role.
Oh that is too hilarious. Nice.
You Tube has about anything, from hysterical to teaching you how to crochet for Ms. Shelly’s Share a Square.
Myspace seems to be all about the glitter and the freedom to say words your parents would cream you for otherwise for many of the kids, besides they are so busy making comments about nothing they haven’t got time for finding other outlets.
Iphone makes it so simple for people like me to three-way call, I don’t have to remember what to push. . .laugh, go ahead.
As for sex tapes - I’d delete them within seconds of seeing them, I’m quite sure I couldn’t get the camera angles to be flattering enough! (You may grin, here.)
As for your question number 5, it is because we are all waiting on someone else to cure it all, either because it is too painful to think about and we become ostriches or we don’t know how to fix it ALL and become overwhelmed and turn to amusing interviews as cover.
I think you hit several questions right on the head ;)
I’m so totally out of it, that I couldn’t answer any of those things. Except why Paris may be popular…it’s because people keep talking about her! The media gives us what we want, you know.
Oh, and maybe the sex tapes…do you really think they were a “surprise?”
Oh hell no. All that was planned very carefully.
