Call Me Simple, But I Love TV

While I’m on my “blogging mission,” as it has been termed by a kind external source, I watch Satellite television. I have a giant Papasan chair I virtually lay down and watch tv in while I gather meaningless information and build my slice of personal blog heaven: this “Riley Central.” It’s no clever quip to note how TV used to be 5 channels without a remote. I heard reference to it in Bucky Covington’s latest song: “Different Life” and I’ve read it countless times in many forms on blogs I peruse. Nonetheless, I have deep memories of rabbit ears and VHF/UHF. pic215 (165)The UHF was like public broadcasting and the VHF was commericals. It was harder to get the UHF signal as I recall. We used to have a TV that when you’d turn it off the tube would make a collapsing star like theTwilight Zone. We used to turn it off and on when we were bored as kids just to watch it. Imagine our shock when one day the tube blew out!

Anyway, now I live like a cheeseburger in TV paradise. It’s a long way from that Summer of ‘69 when I was born in Fullerton, California and brought home to a house 13 miles from Disneyland with NO TV in the house and no immediate plans to get one. Believe it or not, that wasn’t so strange then. People read books, went to the park, “talked” . . . it was indeed a different world. But I don’t get nostalgic, I get TIVO!!!!

My wife has mastered the TIVO system. We have a gang of regular shows we watch on demand. I only got hip to TIVO and satellite TV a couple years ago. Since then I am a confessed addict and I am never going back.

Tonight, to name just one of our many TIVO show fixes, is the ongoing saga of “Age of Love,” a reality show where a 30 y/o must choose between 20 y/o’s or 40 somethings. It sounds cheese I know, but we’re all hooked in. I have other stuff to wtite about that I found today, but it’ll have to wait ’til later. First things first you know!!! **shoving handful of popcorn into mouth** As a teaser of one thing to come, check out an amazing little task management site called: rememberthemilk.com -more later.

We have this huge thing in common. I LOoooove(!) my television and my shows. I breathe reality tv! ;) Anyway I’ve had the Tivo since it first came out. So cool you and your wife are enthusiasts. And funny(!) I watch “Age of Love” also. My fave this season is “Big Brother 8″ and “So You Think You Can Dance?”. LOL.

PS your blog looks fantastic! Love the new style.

We just put BB8 on the TIVO. So it’s good huh? Coolness. Haven’t seen “So you think . . .” but have been enjoying the Hasselhoff on “America’s Got Talent.” There’s so many choices when you have TIVo!

Thanks for the nice comment about my new theme and layout.

Oh, I love TV, too!! We have the hi-def digital cable package instead of the satellite TV. I had a few friends who started with the sattelite and it kept losing picture in the wind and they’d be up on the roof a few times just to wtch a program…..no thanks!!!!

Our cable comes with a DVR so we record a lot of things, too. I think TV is wonderful. I will watch pretty much anything, but the hubby is a little bit more selective in his choices. My fave channels are probably TLC and the Discovery Channel. I just love “Deadliest Catch”, “American Chopper” and “Dirtiest Jobs”…lately we’ve been hooked on this “Man vs. Wild” show. It’s bordering on insanity, but I like it. I could watch Court TV for hours on end, too!!

Hey Jessica. Our DirectTV Satellite has been free of issues. We had cable for awhile but wife unit changed it due to cost as I recall. They’re all probably about the same when it comes down to eating popcorn. I used to be a TLC dude, and I have seen all those shows in bits and pieces. I’d say my HUGEST faves lately have been news story shows like Dateline and 20/20. Sounds like we have the TIVO thing in common! As always, I appreciate your visit and your comment.
