Should People Get Offended When You Don’t Comment on Their Blog?
My wife Sarah said to me yesterday, “I had better get my reading of blogs done or people might get offended.” I have felt this guilt quite a bit in my blogging life. I do indeed feel bad that I haven’t read as much as I have written (and tweaked) my own blog. I think I have tweaked more than anything! I feel bad I don’t give those on my blogroll the attention they desserve but at the same time, I would want them to ignore my blog in favor of their own if they found something interesting to do. Currently my most regular reader always seems to comment as if she wants to be here reading and that is the best way! If you have to force yourself to “make the rounds,” isn’t that more like a chore than a fun hobby?
I won’t name names, but the opposite of a cool blog commenter like the one I just alluded to, is someone who emails you something like this: “Please emove me from your blogroll because you aren’t visiting my blog” -I AM NOT KIDDING I GOT THIS EMAIL RECENTLY- or . . . “Because you removed me from your blogroll, I have no choice other thanto remove you from mine.” And this one was from an established blogger with hundreds of blogs on her blogroll. NOTE . . . I have 10-20 on mine on purpose because I want them to represent GREAT BLOGS to people who trust me. For her to have me on hers did me absolutely no good and gave me zero traffic anyway. All this stuff like I have mentioned is so so silly. The worst part of it is that these two bloggers have are around 40 years old or more. Shouldn’t they have better social sklls? I digress . . .
Do you read as much as you’d like? How do you schedule your blog reading and commenting time? Do you get offended when people stop visiting your blog? Has anyone ever emailed you they were offended by something you did, or neglected to do, on your blog?

is YOU. (oh and your family) That person who cut you off in traffic this morning…. let it go. The comment about what your wearing…. let it go. The invitation that you didn’t get… let it go. If someonedoesn’t comment on your blog… let it go. Just remember… it’s really up to you. If you want others to be gracious to you… be gracious to them. (oh I forgot, why would anyone need to be gracious to you?) *sarcasm intended*

Good grief!
Why are these people blogging to begin with? They seem to be missing the point.
I go through phases where I read a lot, or write a lot, or neither. When I’m reading blogs, the authors don’t necessarily know it, as I use Bloglines & am apt to come in only to comment.
Or, of course, to see what design changes are happening…
I don’t get offended if my readership declines, but I do pay attention. If it becomes a trend, I might sweat it a bit. But how would I know if some individual(s) weren’t reading?
They use feed readers, too.
I have had complaints about slow loading, because I used to have lots of widgets. Reluctantly, I’ve cut back.

@sbpoet: Yeah, I think there are just as many if not more unbalanced filks online as there are irl. As far as the widgets go: I might recommend the WP-Cache plugin, showing less posts per page, as well as simply being a little more selective in the widgets you use. All this can speed up page loads immensely. Another thing to do is try your blog out on all the 3 major browsers. Usually there are some widgets that don’t show on IE and then you can just remove those if you like. That means less widgets which means faster page loads.
