Gold Rushing to Your Head Much?
The Gold Rush of California spurred a mass of hysteria which in turned created an economy that never existed prior. Gold makes things happen in this world.
But what about the things that “all-powerful” gold cannot buy?
cure
quell of terrorism
inspiration
love
talent
peace
happiness
What do you see missing from this list? When I think about the list, it really gives gold a lot less power. So why is mankind so enamored with gold? I’m taking my students on a field trip to a gold rush exhibit where they get to pan etc. I’m excited about it but you better bet I will be tempering the excitement with the teaching that gold won’t ever make you happy in and of itself. You have to tend to the all powerful heart for that task.

I think that money can assist in a cure, as it is a means to fund further research. Still, a great list and a good lesson for the kids. You’re certainly a positive influence. Keep it up!
I know you have to teach them that, and I am with you, in theory, but many times it takes money to buy food to keep us healthy and surgery to fix us… but, yes, we do make our own happiness!
