Blog Writing: Look Be4 You Leap

I read a great post recently over at BobBuskirk.com. He was listing the items he focuses on in blog composition and then inviting readers to share what it is they find helpful.

I liked his ideas a lot and added my 2 cents through a comment:

In my view, effective blog authorship concerns itself with 3 areas:1. Content (most say - “Content is King” but I say it’s really only 1/3)

2. Blog Template and Interface (including RSS entry and appearance) Has to be useable, functional inside and out.

3. Pitch to SEO/Google/Audience - Don’t expect to get any visits if people don’t know about you. AND, don’t expect any comments unless your post is relevant to your visitors.

I liked this post a lot. It was right up my alley.

Sometimes I look for popular news stories and I recently discovered this interesting Google resource when choosing subjects to blog on.

In conclusion, to echo Bob’s question: What is it you focus on when you write a blog post?

The longer I write my own blog, the more I realize that there really is a formula to blog success. In my own experience, I have found it’s a lot like what I’d imagine Hollywood stars have to go through. You’re hot if you keep yourself out there and active, but if you slack, even the tiniest bit, there’s always another great blogger, just waiting in the wings to replace you.

There might be a formula, and I see it for most people, but I like independent films

I honestly don’t know how my blog became “popular.” Wasn’t politics–that was a byproduct

I would like to think good writing keeps people coming back. Blogging has taught me to zero into what an audience likes. That’s different than a formula. It’s just knowing how to hook people and keep them interested.

I no longer care about the trappings of blog success. I was glued 24/7 to a computer

I never expected to get rich off my blog. Didn’t even know people blogged for money my first year

It did give me recognition. It helped my confidence and helped establish me. I will always be a blogger. It’s become integral to my life

So many bloggers are helping me with my book, I feel I should give them co-author status, and that is blog success to me
