[Published] Teaching and the Coming Recession

I was fortunate enough to have another set of my words published today at the renowned Blogcritics Magazine.  My post there is a commentary on teaching as a career choice.  It is aimed mainly at young people considering going into the trade.  I discuss how/if the coming recession might affect the profession.  If you care to comment over there I would sure appreciate it.

I must admit that pay was one of the variety of factors that influenced my decision to change my major away from teaching. I think that education is important enough to most people that while the raises might not be as prevalent, the pay should remain fairly adequate….this doesn’t mean you should give up on your online income though, Damien.

Great article, as always! I also realized something while reading your article… How important it is to have good (in big, bold letters) teachers.

I’m going to venture out on a limb and say that it’s probably some of the best educated people in this country who got us into this mess.

There’s a difference between going to school and learning and that difference is the good teachers. I see it with my own kids, sometimes. We talk about school and what they are learning and sometimes I hear them not only well versed about a topic, but also thinking about it, debating it in their own minds-things like that. Other times, I can tell they are just repeating facts back.

There’s a huge difference to me and once again, that difference is the teacher. The good ones are priceless!!!!!
