[Podcast] Quote Talk with Damien

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

In this, my second podcast, I got a great tip from my friend Jessica S. (I have to distinguish with an S. because my sister in law is also named Jessica and is also a blogger who reads Postcards) to go back through my thousands of archived posts and talk about one of those ideas.  Thanks Jessica!  As I took her advice tonight I ran across my quote page and thought it would be a great opportunity as I’m learning how to “talk to you guys” ;) to share some of these personal impressions I get from the crazy quotes I have collected.

It’s a bit longer than the last one, but I think I needed to make it longer this time.  I am actually somewhat happy with my voice.  Last time I sounded like I was out of breath thereby giving away my nerves.  There are a few pops on the microphone etc. that I apologize for.  But, I think I’m getting an idea how this should go and I hope you’ll tune in next week.  I promise to have a new concept.  It might have something to do with the amazing inventions of Rome, but nothing is set in stone yet ;)

Thanks for listening to this podcast.  Oh and one last thing, I wanted to say thank you to Nick for his encouraging comment about my podcast last week.  With wobbly legs, I am kind of learning how to do this as I go along so the positive vibes are appreciated!  We’ll see where it goes.

10 Successful Thoughts

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

With the threat of economic collapse on our states’ and country’s shoulder, we need something to hang our hat on.  As an “amateur therapist” on the internet, and I say that with my tongue firmly in my cheek, I took it upon myself to provide you with 10 successful thoughts that will weather any storm, even the one our country is in now:

  1. Physical: The body fuels the mind.  Are you exercising every day?
  2. Studies have shown a simple haircut increases mood.  If you’re follicly challenged (like me) you could try shaving it.  Ladies in this predicament, ever consider a cute wig?
  3. Our parents were right, you ARE what you eat.  Are you eating enough nutritional meals?
  4. Mental: From a distance, things look different.  Have you stood back and looked at your situation?
  5. Our long-held beliefs determine the way we view situations in life.  We are many time wrong about our situation.  ie; because your boss calls you in doesn’t mean you’re being fired.  Are you beliefs dooming your reactions?
  6. You have 2 eyes, 2 ears, and only one mouth.  Try observing and listening more while talking less.
  7. Inspirational: “80% of success is showing up” -Woody Allen
  8. Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, usually do.
  9. Learn how to find peace between the things that happen.
  10. If at first you don’t succeed, redefine success.

The Greatest Tragedy is NOT

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death; the greatest tragedy takes place when our talents and capabilities are underutilized and allowed to rust while we are living.” AMMA

I added this quote to my crazy quotes page recently. It’s getting pretty serious there now, I have 40 that cycle through randomly. This new one just stuck out to me and begged to be shared.

Make sure you put effort forth to use your talents. In many cases people can make money doing that which empassions them. Work doesn’t have to feel like a dead end. I think this is an important quote so I wanted to give it its own post. I wish I could give you a set of talking watches that repeated over and over what a true tragedy is. Thanks for reading.
