Manage Your Comments: Recaptcha In, Akismet Out
Akismet, the native WordPress comment spam protection service, spams a lot of good comments on my blog. I don’t always have the time to check it for false-negatives. As a result, I probably have missed at least some comments from many great writers, friends, and visitors. I’ve suffered with it long enough. Today I deactivated it and now I’m using Recaptcha. In the future I may use them both in concert with one another.
Add V.A.L.U.E. to Your Blog :: “L”
Okay, so I covered the first two letters of value: “V” for visceral and “A” for aphoristic. Now the third: “L” for linkage! Link love is the #1 way to make friends and influence people (namely bloggers you link to on the web. After you’ve written your visceral post of around 200 [...]
Email a Friend Add-ons for Traffic
Many bloggers think it’s important when you’re trying to get backlinks and traffic to have a way for your readers to send your blog url to a friend. There are some great plugins for Wordpress and some good scripts out there that can achieve this function on any blog or website. On my [...]
How to Install a WordPress Blog
1. Understand the difference between Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com
.com is a free blog service like blogger, Yahoo! 360, or Livejournal (there are many many more). You have very limited control over the files apart from the post content. Furthermore, most ad campaigns will not pay out to free hosted blogs such as these. These [...]Migrate a WordPress Blog in 2,773 Steps

Kubrick: Wordpress Default Theme is all I Need
A few people have asked me about my recent theme changes so I wanted to address it here in one place rather than in several emails and comments. It’s been a very good thing.
Most people who read my blog know that I have been a theme changer since the beginning. Shelly Tucker even addressed [...]Celebrating WordPress Themes
You’ll see a variety of visual themes showcased here at Postcards throughout the next couple of weeks. I want to share with you some of the themes I’ve admired and used in the past year and a half. I also hope this “series” will accent the versatility of WordPress. Feel free to [...]
Blogrolling.com Fast Losing Credibility
Blogrolling.com has been down most of the last few days and I for one am about ready to toss out their service. I used Blogrolling because it’s easy to add and update blogs to it and it automatically updates all my blogs simultaneously.
I have other options: Wordpress’ native blogroll has its limitations but at [...]Multiple Blogs: Are they Worth the Effort?
I’ve recently started a traditional writing blog to accompany this blog, a Tumblelog-Hybrid, I’ve had for over a year. Since I did so, I find myself imagining topics for new blogs … it’s getting ridiculous! They are so much work.Still, I don’t know if keeping multiple blogs is such a bad idea. I’m [...]
It’s the End of “the Blog” as We Know it and I Feel Fine
It’s the End of “the Blog” as We Know it and I Feel Fine
It’s so much fun having a tumblelog. I’ve always been one to post too often but with this format, that’s par for the course: the more the better. I used to write long, drawn out posts. I recall a [...]
